GO-AHEAD FOR NEXT STAGE OF FENLAND SCHOOLS IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMME
A vital strategy to improve schools in the Fenland area has been given the green light by the Government.
Cambridgeshire County Council has been celebrating following news that Part 2 of the Council’s Strategy for Change has been approved. This important document is one of several that demonstrate how ambitions for Cambridgeshire’s schools and young people will be realised through the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) project.
BSF will see significant improvements to six of Fenland’s schools - Cromwell Community College, Neale-Wade Community College, Thomas Clarkson Community College, Sir Harry Smith Community College, Meadowgate School and Fenland Junction Pupil Referral Unit.
The national BSF project will see all 3500 secondary schools in England rebuilt or substantially remodelled over a 15-year period at a total cost of around £45 billion.
Schools in Fenland will be the first in Cambridgeshire to benefit, although schools across the rest of the county will be included in future ‘waves’ over the next 10 years. About £95 million is available for Fenland.
Work now focuses on developing an Outline Business Case (OBC), a document detailing cost, affordability and the timetable for the project. OBC will be submitted to Partnership for Schools, the government agency overseeing the BSF project, in spring 2008.
