STUDENTS' INPUT INTO SCHOOL DEVELOPMENTS CELEBRATED

Pupils from two Fenland schools have been celebrating their contributions to the development of their schools through the Building Schools for the Future programme.
Over 80 guests attended an event to celebrate the achievements of students from Thomas Clarkson and Neale-Wade Community Colleges. The students worked with The Sorrell Foundation to develop a pupil brief for their new schools being delivered through Cambridgeshire County Council’s Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.

Students visited The Sorrell Foundation’s headquarters in Somerset House, London and undertook a range of activities, including a visit along the South Bank and a trip on the London Eye. Work then focused on developing ideas for their new school and seeking the views of their fellow students. The celebration event was the culmination of this work and an opportunity to present their ideas to the wider community.

Students presented their thoughts on learning, dining and social spaces. They then received certificates of achievement from Lady Frances Sorrell, co- founder of The Sorrell Foundation.

Thomas Clarkson students took the opportunity to express their appreciation to headteacher John Bennett and all staff for their hard work and achievements since the opening of Thomas Clarkson Community College on 1 September 2007.

The national BSF project will see all 3500 secondary schools in England rebuilt or substantially remodelled over a 15-year period at a total cost of around £45 billion.

Schools in Fenland will be the first in Cambridgeshire to benefit, although schools across the rest of the county will be included in future ‘waves’ over the next 10 years. About £100 million is available for Fenland.
