FENLAND WORKSHOPS ON SCHOOL BUILDING PLANS
Special workshops are being held in Fenland this week and next to update schools and other interested parties on the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The purpose of the workshops - at Fenland Junction Pupil Referral Unit on Friday 2 November at 3.30pm, at Meadowgate Special School on Wednesday 7 November at 4.00pm and at Cromwell Community College on Thursday 8 November at 4.00pm - will be to inform a wide variety of stakeholders about the purpose and possible outcomes of the BSF investment programme and will include presentations and a question and answer session.
The Government has given the go-ahead for the first phase of BSF in Cambridgeshire. This will see significant improvements to six Fenland schools - Cromwell Community College, Neale-Wade Community College, Thomas Clarkson Community College, Sir Harry Smith Community College, Meadowgate Special School and Fenland Junction Pupil Referral Unit.
The national BSF project will see all 3500 secondary schools in England rebuilt or substantially remodelled over a 15-year period at a total cost of around £45 billion.
The Fenland schools will be the first in Cambridgeshire to benefit, although schools across the rest of the county will be included in future ‘waves’ over the next 10 years. About £95 million is available for Fenland.
The schools, Cambridgeshire County Council and the Government attach a high priority to stakeholder engagement so the workshops will be an important opportunity to hear the views of the wider school community and to ensure they understand fully the implications and benefits of this project.
